BROUGHTON, WASHINGTON, NASH: I am researching the BROUGHTON, WASHINGTON,
NASH lines. My great grandfather, Sandy Broughton was born a slave in Covington,
GA in 1853 and came north around 1865 with the Union Army and settled outside
of Springfield, OH. He married Alice Washington, born February 7, 1871 in Meigs
County, OH. Her parents were Joseph and Julia Nash Washington. Sandy and Alice
had a son, William David Broughton, my grandfather, born May 1, 1897 in
Middleport, OH. Alice had a sister Ida and a brother Will. Alice, Julia, Ida
and William are listed on the 1910 census. Alice is 70 years old, which means
she was born around 1840. Alice is listed as a widow (Sandy went to visit his
relatives in Georgia after his 8th-grade-educated wife told him that his last
name was really Broughton. He was never heard from after that.)
Sandy Broughton thought his name was Broady and may have gone by that name for
some time, or a variation of that name. He had a horse named Anna that he
raced in the Galliapolis Fair. He also had a second-hand store. It seems there
might be a record of horse races somewhere. I'm having difficulty finding any
information for Sandy.

DAVIS, SARSONS, MCNEIL, VAN HOOSIER, CONKLIN, BRUNDAGE, COURTLAND:
Our family is descended from Robert Davis, who was born in New Hampshire in
about 1817, moved to Meigs County, and settled near Tuppers Plains. He married
Mary Sarsons, who bore him three children before his death, and later married
Elizabeth McNeil, born in l824, to Archie and Lovice McNeil. Lovice was from
New York, and her surname was Van Hoosier. Our family has been unable to find
any information about Robert Davis, or the Van Hoosier family, and we are
interested in corresponding with anyone who could help us with these stumbling
blocks. We are also interested in contacting the descendents of Robert and Mary.
Their three children were 1). Louisa (married Conklin, and lived in Oxford,
Kansas in the l890s), 2). Charles (died in the Battle of Lynchburg during the
civil war), and 3). Harriet (married Brundage, had three children and died in
Buffalo County, Nebraska). One of Harriet's children was Fred Courtland, who
was living in Buffalo county, Nebraska during the l890s. The other two children
(girls), were apparently taken to live with relatives near Cleveland. They were
Ada M. Brundage and ? I would appreciate any help with these family members.

EVERTON, ANTHONY: Jane Everton was born in 1804 in Ross Co. Ohio.
She was the daughter of Thomas Everton and ? (one item I found said her
mother was Relief Howe but I am unsure of this) Jane married George Anthony,
Jr. in 1826 in Jackson Co. Ohio. They moved to Indiana by 1843 and in the
1850 census are listed with the following children: John W., Fletcher,
Melissa, Nelson, Spencer, and Minerva J. In the 1860 census in Appanoose
Co. Iowa, Jane is a widow and living with her son, Spencer Anthony and
his wife, Rowena Packard Anthony, Melissa and Minerva J. Nelson is married
to Almina Packard Anthony and has one daughter, Mary Jane. They remain in
Iowa until 1872 when they moved to Sumner Co. Kansas. Jane goes with her
sons and their families. I have not found records for Minerva or Melissa
yet or for the two older boys, John W. and Fletcher but I am still looking.
I have found information that Thomas Everton died in Meigs Co. Ohio in 1840
and that he was in the Rev. War. I have also found several marriage
records for Meigs Co., Ohio that I believe must be his children and
grandchildren. I have little else on Thomas Everton. (I did find a Thomas
Everton on the 1790 census for Surry Co. N. C. which may be the same man.)

CARTWRIGHT, CASTLE, WHITNEY: I have Poston kin who lived in Athens County
and I have recently discovered that other members of the family came from
Meigs County (or, at least, lived there for a while). My greatgrandmother,
Mary Cartwright, appears to have been born there in 1832 to John and Thankful
Whitney Cartwright. Thankful is known to have been the daughter of Jabez
Whitney and his wife Abigail Milk Wheeler who were married in Chesterville,
Maine, in 1803. They were found in the 1810 census in Maine, but by 1820
they were gone. It now appears that they moved to Meigs County. I haven't
had the opportunity to check the census for Meigs, but that's my supposition.
I suspect that both Jabez and John may have died in Meigs, but that is
unproven. At any rate, the families moved to Adams County, Illinois, by the
time of the 1850 census when Thankful was listed without John. I believe that
the Cartwrights and Castles were affiliated in some way and both families
moved to Adams Co. Mike Poston

RAPPOLD, ZWILLING: The Rappold family came from Bavaria and settled in
the Pomeroy area. I'm particularly interested in finding the gravesites of the
early settlers: Anton and Anthony. They were probably buried in the Catholic
cemetery, although I believe someone in Pomeroy told me that the old German
cemetery had been moved. I have been able to find some gravesites in a small
cemetery outside of town.
If interested, I have a web site that has a gedcom file that I converted
to HTML. The file is rather incomplete and error prone, but I should be
getting an updated file from one of my relatives soon.
This site has a complete list of surnames, so maybe some of the other
Meigs researchers may run accross some familiar names. John Rappold
