This is the initial stage of a very long-range project to index or extract the available U.S. Censuses for Meigs County (and some neighboring counties) and make them available on the Internet. This started as a one-person effort, but I have been fortunate enough to have been joined by Sharon Bickle Rickerson, Merry Anne Pierson, Connie Cotterill Schumaker, and others, who have provided much of the information listed below. Any additional volunteers to do some indexing, even just a page or two, would be warmly welcomed. The information is being taken directly from microfilm of the census schedules or from publicly available data, not from previously published hardcopy census indexes. Any additions or corrections to the information will be appreciated, along with any public domain indexes or extracts.

1890 U.S. Federal Census

The 1890 U.S. Federal Census for Meigs County, and most of the rest of the country, was destroyed by fire in 1921. The Enumeration of School-Age Youth for 1890 and 1891 provide a partial replacement, for Sutton Township only.

In addition, there was a special census of Civil War veterans and their widows.
