WASHINGTON COUNTY, OH, DEEDS, VOL. 1, 1793-1807. pg. 68. DEED -- Alpheus Converse To John Russell. Washington County Records, Vol. 3, Page 425. Know all men by these presents that I Alpheus Converse of Palmer in the County of Hampshire, gentleman, in consideration of Two hundred and ninety dollars paid me by John Russell of Marietta in the County of Washington in the Territory of the United States, North West of the River Ohio, yeoman, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge do hereby give, grant, sell and convey unto the said John Russell, his heirs and assigns one full and complete share of land including the several lots heretofore drawn in the name of the said Alpheus Converse against his eight acre lot and is Lot No. one hundred and fifty six and lying in the County of Washington and territory aforesaid for further particular reference being had to a deed from the Rec'd Doct? Manasseh Cutler to the said Alpheus Converse bearing date June twenty first one thousand seven hundred and ninety two and meaning the one half contained in said Cutlers deed to said Converse. To have and to hold the same to the said John Russell, his heirs and assigns that I am lawfully seized in fee of the premises that they are free of all encumbrances and that I will warrant and defend the same to the said demands of all persons. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of September in the year of Our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety six.
