Eben Cory    } Know all men by these presents that I Eben Cory of Waterford in
    to       } the county of Washington and Territory of the United States
John Russell } northwest of the river Ohio for the consideration of eighty
               dollars to me paid by John Russell of Marietta in the same
county, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have bargained and sold
and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey unto the said John Russell,
his heirs and assigns forever one hundred acres of land situate in the said
county and is butted and bounded and described as follows viz lying in mile
lot No. one of the ninth township and eleventh range surveyed agreeably to the
ordinance of Congress of the twentieth of May one thousand seven hundred and
eighty five beginning at a stake in the line between the tenth and eleventh
range as surveyed agreeably to the ordinance of Congress, six chains seventy
eight links south of the north east corner of mile lot No. one aforesaid then
running west almost one mile to the Muskingum river then south thirteen chains
thirty three links by the river then east one mile to a stake in the aforesaid
range, then north thirteen chains thirty three links to the place of beginning
and is No. twenty nine on the plan of survey bounded east on unallocated land
west on the Muskingum river north on Lot No. twenty eight and south on lot No.
thirty which said lot of one hundred acres was conveyed to me by Rufus Putnam
and others by deed dated the twentieth of December one thousand seven hundred
and ninety five to have to hold the said bargained premises with the
appurtenances to him the said John Russell, his heirs and assigns forever in
fee simple. And I do bind myself, my heirs, executors and administrators the
said lot of land against the lawful claims of any person or persons forever to
the said John Russell, his heirs and assigns to warrant and defend in witness
whereof I have hereto put my hand and seal at Marietta this eleventh day of
January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six.

Washington ss personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices
of the peace for the county of Washington Ebenezer Corey the signer and sealer
of the within instrument and acknowledged the same to be his voluntary act and
deed, Marietta January eleventh one thousand seven hundred and ninety six.
