BICKLE FAMILY OF MEIGS CO. by Sharon Bickle Rickerson 6126 Brace Detroit, MI 48228-4757Jacob BICKLE, is my earliest proven BICKLE, coming to Cheshire, Gallia Co. (1819 became Meigs Co.)OH, as early as 1811. According to family records he was born in PA, with either his family, or by himself, to "old Virigina", where he apparently met his wife, Margaret (not proven this is her name). From there they traveled through Elk River, which is now in Kanawha Co., WV and then on to Gallia. The children of Jacob are: (1) Mary, b.2 Dec 1793, d. 8 Feb 1880, Graham District, Mason Co., WV, buried there. She married Gabriel GRAHAM, 2 Apr 1818, Gallia, issue unknown; (2) Leonard, b.abt 1800/1802, d.bef 1855, married Lucy BOLTON, (daughter of James BOLTON), 28 Apr 1822, Meigs Co., they had three children; (3) Margaret, married a man named Stephens; (4) Nancy, married Malon Roberts, 9 Feb 1837, Meigs Co.; (5) Rachel, married Josiah Lewis Wright, 14 Feb 1828, Meigs Co, they had issue.
Leonard and Lucy had three children: (1) Henry James, b. 16 Dec 1827, Rutland Twp, d. 15 Sep 1905, Rutland Twp., married Adeline Rosetta HYSELL, (daughter of Pulliam Holiday HYSELL and Nancy WOODARD, of Culpeper Co., VA) b.15 Jan 1832, Rutland Twp., d. 14 Jan 1914, Bradbury, Meigs Co., on 28 Dec 1848, Meigs Co, they had 14 children; (2) Fidelia, b. 16 Aug 1831, Middleport, Salisbury Twp., Meigs Co., d. 26 Feb 1870, Middleport, she married William A. HYSELL, b. Jul 1826, Meigs Co., had 4 children; (3) Abner, b.abt 1834, Meigs Co., married Mary P. BROWN, 24 Jul 1858, Meigs Co., they had 4 children.
Lucy BOLTON BICKLE remarried after Leonard died, to John A. HULL, on 14 Jan 1855 in Meigs Co. There are two references to her birth place, one is MA, and the other VA.

Her parentage is uncertain, they had five children; (7) Adaline Rosetta, b.abt 1862, OH, married Steve VINSON; (8) Ellen, b.abt 1864, OH, married Stanley Oliver, 15 Feb 1885, Pomeroy;; (9) Dudley Curtis, b.abt 1866, OH, d.bef 1914, married Sophia OHLINGER, 12 Dec 1889, Meigs Co., they had one child, Amelia A.; (10) Florence Emma, b. 29 Jul 1869, Middleport, d. 1951, buried in Rutland Twp, married Malon GUESS, b.abt 1855, d. 1943, on 26 Sep 1890, Meigs Co.; (11) Alice Roberta, b. 3 Apr 1873, Meigs Co., d.bef 1915; (12) Angeline (Angel)May, b. 6 May 1871, Salisbury Twp., d. 26 May 1885, Meigs Co.; (13) Henry Jefferson, b.OH; (14) Lucius (Lush) Adelbert, b. May 1875, Meigs Co., married a lady named Mary, b.May 1880, they had one child, Martie, and later moved to Greenville, SC.
Henry contributed numerous articles to the Leader newspaper concerning log cabin days. He tells about the building of them and what it was like living in a log cabin back then. He liked to move around, and at one point he went to Illinois for a very brief period before coming back to Meigs Co.

DOVER, they had 3 children; (2) Harry, b. 22 Aug 1889, Pomeroy, d. 13 Feb 1971, Detroit, Wayne Co., MI, married Evelyn Mildred ZIEGLER, b. 17 Sep 1909, Detroit, on 17 Jun 1944 in Detroit; (3) Herbert Henry (twin--the other died), b. 12 Sep 1892, Pomeroy, d. 4 Apr 1973, E.Liverpool, Columbiana Co., OH, married Katie Marie LAUGHLIN, b. 2 Jun 1897, New Brighton, PA, d. 12 Jan 1984, they had 5 children; (4) Eugene, b. 24 May 1900, Pomeroy, d. 8 Jul 1981, Green Valley, Pima, AZ, married 1st. Leona PERRY, 2nd. Nell PUGH, 3rd. Edis SPECK of Wyandotte, Wayne Co, MI, 4th. Bess/Bessye.
Rosa Belle, according to the census, was named PETTY, but always used the name CALAWAY, because she was raised by her grandparents, James C. and Mary CALAWAY. It appears the mother, Bunetta or Nettie CALAWAY, had a relationship with a man named PETTY, and gave the name to Rosa and her brother, Emery. No record of them ever marrying. Nettie later married a man by the name of D.K. Stombock in Meigs Co. Nothing further is known.
