From rickerson@usa.pipeline.com (Sharon Rickerson) Organization news Date 31 Jul 1996 02:17:58 GMT Newsgroups soc.genealogy.surnames Message-ID <4tmfom$hcp@nadine.teleport.com>My grandmother Rosa Belle Calaway/Petty was born 29 Sept 1866 probably in OH. She died 11 Aug 1948 in Detroit, MI.
In the 1870 and 1880 census she is listed with James C. & Mary Calaway, in Rutland Twp., Meigs Co., OH, who were her grandparents. Her surname was listed as PETTY. In the 1870 census an Emory Petty was listed as being 1 yr. old but disappears in the 1880 census. Rosa Belle was apparently raised by her Calaway grandparents because that is the surname she used throughout her life. No trace of guardianship or adoption was found though.
Have not been able to find either a birth record for Rosa Belle, or Emory. I have checked extensively for anything pertaining to her and can not find anything, other than her marriage to Selim Day BICKLE, and her death record.
Any help greatly appreciated as I have been trying to solve this little puzzle for over 10 years. Thanks.
