WRAY: I am actively seeking the parents of Thomas Wray b. 15 Dec 1776,
Gallia Co., Ohio; d. 17 Oct 1843, Gallia Co., Ohio. Thomas married Rachel Neal
on 26 Sep 1802 in Monroe Co., WV. They moved to the Gallia/Lawrence Co., Ohio
area approximately 1820. Thomas had at least one proven brother, John Wray b. ca.
1775, Virginia and d. 1862 in Christian Co., MO. John married Sarah McGlammery
in 1799 in Greenbrier (later became Monroe Co.) Co., WV. John moved to Lawrence
Co., Ohio about 1815, later to Vermillion Co., IL about 1829 then to Missouri
about 1832. In 1834 he married Nany (Kyle) Rapp (widow of Daniel Rapp) in
Greene Co., MO. Thomas may have had another brother named Edmond or Edward.
Possibility of more siblings. We have a team of experienced researchers that
has gathered a great deal of data on this family and others with the surname
Wray - often spelled Ray - and sometimes Wrey, Rae, Rea or Reah. We have seen
the name spelled differently within the same document. There is strong evidence
that Thomas & John were originally from Buckingham/Amherst counties in Virginia.
Of particular interest is Moses Ray who left a will in 1766, Amherst Co., Virginia.
His property was originally purchased in Albemarle Co., the part which later
became Amherst Co. Moses had sons, Moses Jr. (Later moved to Georgia), William
(later moved to Georgia), & Thomas (whereabouts unknown). Any information on
Thomas, John and the family of Moses Ray will be most welcome. Because the
Buckingham County Courthouse burned in 1869, we must rely on more personal
records, i.e., journals, family bibles, letters, etc.
We "suspect" that Thomas and John had another brother by the name of Martin who
was last found in 1830 in Meigs county. No proof, just suspect. This Martin
was married to a woman named Hannah.
I also have Meigs county ties through my von Schriltz line. My direct ancestor,
Adam Lewis Victor von Schriltz was one of the earliest settlers in Salem
township. I am also researching Sloans in that area. Loraine Kerns

SHAW, STAATS, COOVER: My g-grandmother's name was Della May SHAW (1874-1910).
She was born in Middleport, Meigs County, OH and lived much of her life in
Athens County, OH. Her parents names were George SHAW (1840-1923) and Margaret
V. STAATS (1853-1924). Della SHAW was married to Melvin COOVER, took ill in
1908 or so and they moved to St. Cloud, FL. I believe she died there, although
I have never found a death certificate or discovered the reason for her early
death. Melvin brought her body and their six children back to Athens County
and buried her in West Union Street Cemetary. I am very interested in any
information anyone may have on Della SHAW, or Melvin COOVER. It seems Melvin
had several wives and many children both before and after his marriage to Della,
and lived the remainder of his life in Fairfield Cty, OH. Barb Waits

MARQUIS, LOWRY: The 5th child of William MARQUIS and Mary LOWRY was William
MARQUIS Jr., born 11 Jan 1838, d. 6 Sep 1838, at Meigs Co., OH, and buried there?
The family lived on a farm in So. Beaver Co., PA, and from that one would assume
since Mary had five living children 3 thru 10 yrs of age, that the children may
have traveled with her. Also, one might assume that there was a relative
living in the Meigs area. I would so much appreciate any of you root diggers
helping me find the place of burial for William Jr. and/or family ties. Since
Mary was born in Ireland, she had family and this is the closest that I can
come to anyone. Margaret D. Pricer

STIVERS: I have an article from the Athens (OH) Messenger dated 12/13/56 that traces
Stivers family roots back to Daniel Stivers father of Randall S. Stivers who
traveled to Ohio with his wife, Phoebe Ball Stivers in 1816. It also gives
info about each of their 10 children. The photo with this article is the
headstone of Alvira Stivers, 1833 - 1921, in the Beech Grove Cemetery,
Pomeroy, OH.
I am just beginning my search to determine if/how my father's family might
connect to Randall and Daniel Stivers. I have no living relatives to turn to

have so far:

HEINEY, BARTON: Need proof Michael & Lucetta Heiney were the parents of Genelle
(Jennatte) Heiney born circa 1849 in Olive Twp, Meigs Co, married William H.
Barton circa 1867-1868. The 1850 census shows a daughter Jane, age 11,

her grandmother Genelle (who died in 1925 when my grandmother was 21)
and her brother "Jap" (Jasper). Genelle and William are buried in the
Heiney Cemetery in Olive Township, said cemetery presumably on land once
belonging to Michael. I've seen the articles about Michael in the

WILLS, HAYES, SCHMIDT, HICKS: I am looking for information to clear up
a family secret. Granville Hayes Wills was born to Maud Hicks about 1893. He
went to school in Meigs County until he was 12. He had a half sister named Dora
"Dixie" Hayes (same mother). Verbal history indicates that Granville was named
after his father who was a lawyer. This lawyer also had a brother who was a
teacher and another brother who was a doctor. I am trying to find out the name
of the father of Granville Hayes Wills. I have tried to find a birth certificate
with no luck nor a death certificate for Maud Hicks who died in Ross Co. in 1905.
To make the story even more complicated it is known that Granville's grandmother,
Anna Schmidt, married the father of her grandaughter, Dora, after her daughter,
Maud, died. Anna Schmidt and new husband then moved to Arizona. I have a dcert
for Dora, but I'm unable to find a mcert for Anna Schmidt and a man named Hayes.
To condense: 1. Find father of Granville Hayes Wills b. 1893 named for natural
father. 2. Record of Anna Schmidt of any kind. Rene' B. Davis

NEUTZLING: I am looking for any information about the Neutzling family
which is supposed to have settled in the Pomeroy area in the mid-1800's. Names
I have are Peter Neutzling...who had four children; Paul, Elmer, Matilda, and
Carrie. At some point, there was a family feud in Pomeroy and Peter moved his
family to Wheeling, WV, and never returned to Meigs Co.....so they tell me. I
believe the family also had connections to Mason Cty, WV across the river...and
found an Albert Neutzling who enlisted in the WV Cavalry during the Civil War
from Mason. Elmer Neutzling was my Great-great grandfather, but he divorced
my GGGrandmother and the family lost track of him....this was in the 1920's.
He was born in Pomeroy probably 1880's. I have found that Neutzling is a
fairly common name in that general area...but I'm told the entire family
immigrated from Germany 1830's together. Any info would be helpful....
specifically, I'm looking for any Civil War service connection.

Martin Stahl and his first wife, unknown, had four children, names unknown
and he had four children by his second wife, Margaret Woodruff. Margaret
Woodruff had four children by her first husband, making a total of twelve
children. The four children of Margaret and Martin were Carrie, also known
as Cad or Caddie, she married Frank Herbert and lived in Centerville, Iowa,
three sons, Clinton and Clayton (twins), Clayton lived and died in Meigs Co.

family lore Martin Stahl left his wife Margaret with the twelve children to
raise alone. He left and was never heard of again. Martin would have been
born approximately 1830's, died unknown. If anyone has any connection to any
